Bill Malone is next with his take on Martin Lewis' version of the trick, featuring some great flourishes you'll want to add to your card handling arsenal. Legendary bar magician J. Wagner's version features adds an Ace assembly finish to the Collins trick while Michael Ammar has some additional touches on the Martin Lewis version.

Nathan Alexander Inner circle 1062 Posts | 0 Does destiny exists? It always ends the other way. This is a 'law of nature'. With Destiny - It´s your choice you deal in a funny, astonishing and surprising way with this topic in your parlour or stage show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a74cJgVKrR8 A destiny card is freely chosen and drawn in a piece of paper. The spectator shuffles his card into the deck by himself. Then it follows a funny procedure of elimination. The spectator throws several times half of the cards into the air. The raining cards are funny and create a 'big picture' on stage. At the end 2-3 cards are left from which the spectator clearly selects one card (no classic equivoque) . Now everybody expects the previous selected card (since you are a magician and you know how you can do something like this) But life is full of surprise - it´s a totally different card. Of course - because all the spectators decisions where totally free. But at the end everything comes the other way. Without having touched the paper now it shows the last card you hold in your hands. - the paper stays visible the whole time - no switch - the elimination process is extremely fair - the raining cards are creating a beautiful picture and fill the stage - at the end there is a full deck of unprepared cards on the floor - the story 'destiny' gives you many possibilities for your story and is interesting to everybody. Mister E. Regular user Germany 185 Posts | 0 He had this in his recent (two years ago...) German lecture tour. If I remember correctly, he said he wanted to do a smart-ass-type effect without the gimmicked deck. It's also in the lecture notes of said lecture tour. If you speak German, you can get it here: http://www.axelhecklau-shop.com/hefte-booklets-dvd/?page=1 It's the 'Evolution' booklet.

ollybollydobdob New user UK 65 Posts | 0 Downloaded this last night, and watched it through a couple of times and I have to say, I am a little disappointed!? Maybe it's because, based on previous releases from Axel, I expected so much more. The card force isn't that clean, Smart-Ass, although gimmicked is VERY clean and fair, and David Regal has a similar but far better gimmickless version on his Penguin Live Lecture that I would prefer to use over this, it's not horrible, but it's more the kind of thing you would read in a book or magazine and just think 'yeah, that's ok' and then probably forget about it. The prediction transformation, again, disappointing! Nothing really new here, without giving anything away, I used this (in a different way) back in the early 90's with an old Supreme Magic prop!! I guess I was expecting more, when I saw the demo, I, like everyone does, had a guess at the method, and you know what . . I was right, I just thought it would be something really new and clever, but it's not, sorry! It's not awful, by any means, and Axel goes into great detail about how to make everything and performance, presentation and the 'moves' If you like what you see on the demo, then this does do exactly that, but I think there are better methods out there of forcing a card and changing a prediction. This is just my opinion, but if you have been in magic a while or reasonably knowledgeable in magic, I am sure you will agree that its nothing really new. Any questions, please ask, Cheers, Darren
rowland Inner circle 1198 Posts | 0 Just purchased this and it doesn't seem able to be down loaded to a tablet unless I am missing something. If that is the case it is a bit disappointing considering that more and more people are using these type of devices and there are other down loads out there which can be easily down loaded to tablets as well as a pc. A bit disappointed by this as I hardly ever turn my lap top on these days.
John C Eternal Order I THINK therefore I wrote 11432 Posts | 0 Sounds like what I thought. Gotta be careful when they say you can pick any card a completely free choice.
rowland Inner circle 1198 Posts | 0 If this is a force then the video is totally misleading. I find this difficult to believe it is a force not because of the routine but I have always thought of Axel as a straight guy who would not deceive anyone with his trick description. If it's a force then the video should be removed.
ollybollydobdob New user UK 65 Posts | 0 I don't think in the trailer or product description it says 'no force' realistically, other than real magic, this HAS to be a force, just not a great one and not quite as clean as shown in the demo. I don't think Axel has been dishonest, just clever wording, ie: 'no classic equivoque'!?? I love Axels stuff, I use Newsflash as part of my opening routine all the time, and Spoonaround is brilliant, His chop cup is awesome, I don't have it, but seen him lecture with it and its really good. This just seems to fall flat in comparison with all his other marketed effects. I have a feeling this has been put together rather hastily without too much thought, there isn't even a live performance on the download! Anyway, I think the main point I am making is, if this was one effect of a multiple effect dvd or an effect within the pages of a book it would be ok, but after all of Axels other effects, this isn't that great, Sorry Axel

These are Axel's own words on the trailer, I am an Axel fan and I use spoon around and just a cup at every gig I do. I have also used his torn and restored but this video I believe is extremely decieving 'IF' it uses a force of some kind. As I don't have it I am only going by what has been put on here in a previous post. I personally hope it doesn't use a force.
Lseeyou Inner circle 1191 Posts | 0 Here you are buying a routine not a method... and people are more looking for methods that's why they will be disappointed with this. This is not a typical Axel release... and some of you will feel cheated... I didn't bought this but I know what's going on and I'm glad I had the opportunity to see this before spending because I was looking for a method to add to something I do but this wont work. In the end this will work fine because his scripting... it makes sense to do what needs to be done when using his words and arm movements. Cheers
ollybollydobdob New user UK 65 Posts | 1 I have this, it DOES use a force, but isn't that obvious? Regarding the advertising blurb, 'A spectator freely picks a card, it can be any card.' The spectator does feely pick a card (HE has no idea it's a force) and ot can be any card, you can force any card you want! I am not in any way sticking up for Axel, I am just saying it's easy to cleverly word things so they sound better and without actually lying. It's wrong, but it happens all the time. I bought an effect recently in which the ad stated, 'No threads, wire, string or invisible thread of any kind' They were right . . It used a human hair!!!! Seriously! On the instructions it told you to pull out a hair from your head, even had photos to go with it! (ironically I am bald) Anyway, I was fuming to say the least, but did they lie on the ad, nope!
Axel Hecklau Regular user Berlin / Germany 105 Posts | 5 I really don´t want to mislead anybody in my product descriptions. So I need to make some points clear here. - The chosen card at the beginning is free (no force) but I guide people to a black card so the contrast at the end to the red card revelation is more clear. If they like to pick another card they are free to do so. Please notice, that also laypeople can read my product descriptions - so I have to avoid formulations that lead them to the secret or to common principles of magic. - Of course you need a procedure to force the spectator to the right card at the end in which the the drawn paper is transformed in. But I like to say, that my way is VERY clean. And when I say no classic Equivoque, than I am correct. Because in a classic magicians choice you have to do several numbers of decisions and depending on the response you have to change your wording for the next phase (which is suspicious if its done bad). In my procedure you only have one decision that is 'Equivoque alike' so you never have the situation of a suspicious change in wording or doing. And with this procedure you avoid to use prepared cards, which is a huge advantage if you like to perform in a smaller performance situation. The technique of changing the drawing fooled magicians in many lectures (and of course every normal spectator). The basic principle is maybe not new (as far as I know Hofzinser already used it) - but why does so few magicians use it???? Because normally its not practical. I added some details and the right material to make it work. And since I found a way to have the material available for normal people in an office supply store I thought about to publish it. So this is not a fast idea and a fast production just to bring it out. I have it in my lecture for more than two years and I decided to release it separately because the explanation in my German lecture note is not in very deep detail. The DVD (or Download) has a 55minute running time because I explain exactly how to make the preparation in every single step (you don’t need to do try and error ). Of course it is available in English language and it was not published in print or on video in English before. The reason why I have no live performance on the DVD is simple. I am German and I do my gigs in Germany - so I have very few chances to perform AND videotape it during an english performance. I wonder why a routine that entertained and fooled so many people is dissapointing to a magician when he learns the secret. If you judge a routine NOT by the effect, the structure, the entertainment factor, the grade of difficulty, practicability and story potential but only by the novelty value of the principle - I think there is something wrong. I hope this is not only my opinion.
ollybollydobdob New user UK 65 Posts | 1 Hey Axel! This was just my thoughts, EVERYTHING I have bought from you has been excellent, the quality of the props, the instructions etc. I have seen you lecture live at Blackpool and Watched your Penguin Live lecture, both awesome and I have Newsflash and Spoonaround, both of which I use constantly in my Cabaret act. But this just wasn't for me, that's all. I wasn't keen on the force, I just personally think there are better ways to do it. And as I said, the change is an old method I used to use in the early nineties, you have updated it and made it easy to prepare and more workable but it's still an old method that I used to use. So for me, yes it was disappointing, it wasn't about the routine as I already had that, I wanted a new method for my existing routine, and I didn't get one! Its so difficult reviewing things, I know this is a strange comparison but . . I didn't like the film Titanic!! That's not to say its not a good film, it is, I know it is, its just not my type of movie. I didn't dislike this or think that it was rubbish, not at all, but its not suitable for me, my performance or my style, I knew the method of forcing already and the method of changing the prediction and I already had a routine and story, so I paid over £20 for something I will never use and which I already knew and that's why I was a little disappointed, especially comparing this to all your other previous amazing releases! Your a fantastic Magician,a consummate professional and a really top bloke, I came over after your Blackpool lecture for a chat (yes, I was the annoying one who would not go away)! Anyway, all the best Axel, Darren
Saturn UK Inner circle 2306 Posts | 0 I just bought this tonight for myself after reading this thread. It should be noted that you do not have to force a card, you can give them the deck and have them select any card if you wish. I just made up the main gimmick using supplies I have here and it worked fine even though they were not the ones advised. The method is a simple one but for stage or parlour these are often the best methods. The prediction at the end looks good also, you are supplied with a PDF document with different value cards so you can vary the value of the final card. There is a little arts and crafts to do but all the art work is on the PDF so what is left is not hard to do at all. I picked this up because I love Smart Ass and this will fit right in the same space in my 2nd show I do for repeat customers. John C Eternal Order I THINK therefore I wrote 11432 Posts | 0 So you can hand them an ordinary deck and they can literally take out any card they want? So they could name a card too. If this is true I am in. Can this be verified Axel?

Re:Flints and ores vs. charges
This is exactly what I want to do at this point and the question I was originally attempting to ask was, 'What can I put on that rotating list besides flints and ores'? I'm just not sure which charges are too common and which would (hopefully) be welcomed. If you wouldn't mind revealing it, I would greatly appreciate a list of your 10 rotating items that you gift under those circumstances. Thanks so much! |
